The Project
We offer free lessons in violin, cello, and ensemble music that are held in the places of residence of children, in the Temporary Residence Centers.
We enter into relationships with families who understand the opportunity given to their children and become instrumental in encouraging and supporting the study of the instrument.
Eliana Gintoli created the orchestra and the choir Kethanè with the children in the Romanes language ‘together’. In recent years the Kethanè orchestra has participated in numerous events with other young Milanese musicians and with choirs of middle school students in prestigious venues such as the Auditorium of Milan, the Sala Arturo Toscanini of the Teatro alla Scala, the Sala Alessi of the Municipality of Milan.
In 2021 the video Con Sam (awarded in the Social clip section as best music at the International Competition) is made. “Black Silk Tulips” sponsored by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies) to commemorate the “Porrajmos”, the holocaust of the Roma, in which the choir formed by students of a Milanese middle school and the Roma children of the Kethane Orchestra perform the song Gelem Gelem, Roma anthem.
The path of the Roma children provides, as soon as they have reached a suitable preparation, the inclusion in Orchestra Giovanile Milano 5, a reality that brings together young musicians of the territory who have known the musical practice in middle schools and wish to continue playing together.
The first performance of the Milan 5 Youth Orchestra with the Kethanè orchestra was on April 8, 2022 (International Roma Day) in the prestigious cloister of the Humanitarian in Milan.
The project, highly inclusive, had for all events the patronage of the Municipality of Milan and the attention of numerous media. Support and involvement also of professional musicians of the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra and La Verdi Orchestra, close to the project since its inception, who participate in the concerts alongside the small musicians.
The 21 children who attended the instrument lessons with commitment also achieved excellent results in school and one child was admitted to the Conservatory of Music.
